About the artist

Chris Talib (b. 1990) is a Belgian artist living in Berlin. He paints people alone with themselves, caught in a moment that isn't posed for anyone. He is interested in the body and face as they actually are: direct, and confrontational, rather than idealised.

He is equally drawn to painters who use directness and honesty as their central tool: Alice Neel's refusal to flatter, Hopper's solitude or Fechin's use of thick paint. He works across oil, gouache, pastel and drawing, moving between them depending on what a subject needs.

Lately he has been returning to the same idea repeatedly: a single figure, a specific light, and the psychological weight of the space around them.

Part of the vivid Berlin art scene, he is also active in numerous life drawing workshops and also organises its own.
